Previsualization
Proof, Inc.
I created previsualization animation for two sequences in I Am Legend, at the time the biggest film ever to shoot in New York City. I worked closely with director Francis Lawrence, vfx supervisor Janek Sirrs and the stunt coordinator Vic Armstrong (who used to be the stunt double for Indiana Jones).
I blocked out the cameras and roughed in animation for these sequences; our all-star previs team then worked together to add polish.
What is previsualization animation?
We build virtual characters, sets and cameras to scale, with lenses that match the cinematographer's kit. I work with the director to block in the actions, design camera moves and cut together an edit. We are able to experiment creatively before the crew walks on set. The "previs" becomes a foundation for the sequence that the director can build on through the rest of the filmmaking process.
